 Color Your Garden...

Sun Combination July/August

Sun Combination August/September

Perennial Combinations for Sun:

Your garden can provide plenty of color throughout the summer months. Color your garden by designing with perennial plants for sun with a bloom time between July and August. And another sun combination that will bloom in August and September. Summer weather conditions can be exhausting and stressful with trying to survive multiple heat waves and dry spells.  Here are some tips for watering:  After proper planting, water is critical for establishment of any plant, tree or shrub.  Always water around the entire plant to distribute water evenly throughout the roots.  Deep watering will encourage a stronger root system. Water plants from underneath rather than above to keep the foliage dry and prevent disease.  Morning or evening watering is more beneficial and will lessen the rate of evaporation.

Stephanie Jochims Glass Art

Art in the Garden Featured Artist

On August 4th the first annual "Art in the Garden" will take place. One of the artists scheduled to exhibit is Stephani Jochim.  Her beautiful glass art pieces are displayed in our gift shop special section for participating artists.  Here is more about Stephanie and her work.

Life in the glass lane is a wonderful ride. I am fortunate to wake up everyday and cut glass.  I have been a glass artist for over twenty years. My journey started learning glass bead making and lampworking. I learned the properties of how different colors and types of glass interacted to produce stunning results.  As I learned more about glass, I started to think about glass fusing.  I did some research and I enrolled in a beginning fused glass course, got a little educated and went home to start fusing glass.  I worked full time and did glass fusing as a hobby. I did art festivals and was asked to teach glass fusing for the local community ed program, and retail stores started to pick me up.  My love of glass was taking a front seat in my life and I wanted to go for the ride! My husband and I relocated to Cable and I was given the opportunity to pursue my glass ambitions. I opened my studio in Hayward in 2011 and started to peddle my wares!  I was lucky, and worked hard and my dream came true.  Glassy Ladies Art Studio was a hit. In April 2018 I moved my studio to Cable to focus more on teaching and commissions.  I teach all over northern Wisconsin in home or community ed programs.  I teach in my studio by appointment.  I share my love of glass to students from 2 to 93 and get great joy seeing the delight over peoples eyes when they hold their first project.  Glass is an amazing medium, I learn every day working with it.  I can hardly wait to see what I'm building next year!
