It's been a long winter and we're anxiously awaiting the arrival of spring and dreaming of getting out in the yard and garden. Whether your planning a completely new landscape project, looking for fruit trees, or want to add some spring or fall color, you will find plenty of plants to choose from at the Bare Root Sale. Best of all, the bare root varieties are 25% off the regular container price.

For highlights and details on some of the new 2008 varieties, please refer to our plant catalog for photos and a complete listing.

In addition to the wide selection of bare root plants available, there are many varieties that are available in containers only. These include all of the evergreens and a few other trees and shrubs. In the catalog, the bare root varieties are indicated by a " or ' after the size, e.g. 18". If the size has Ct appended it is available in a container, e.g. #2 Ct.

In our experience, bare root plants perform equally well compared to container grown plants. They can be stored safely for at least a week provided they are kept moist and cool. Please ask our staff for more care information and for our handouts, which we believe you will find very helpful.

Each day of the bare root sale, at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., there will be short demonstrations on the proper techniques for planting and pruning bare root stock.

The gardens have started their floral displays, the grass is turning green, and the smell of spring is in the air. There is still a bit of a nip in the air, however, so we will have free coffee and cookies available to keep you warm while shopping.

The Bare Root Sale marks the start of the 'Bonus Bills' program. From April 17 to May 31 you will receive one 'Bonus Bill' for every $10 spent. Then from July 4th to July 31st you can use the bills you have collected to pay for up to 50% off any plant purchases that are not already on sale.
