The Future Gardeners

This year we have started a Young Gardener's Club called 'The Sprouts', for the youngest among us. Help us inspire and educate kids to become interested in growing their own food and to become responsible caretakers of the future, gardens and all.

As members of the club, children the ages 5 to12 will get their own membership card (when they sign up at the greenhouse), special offers, a chance to attend several get-togethers and be awarded a 'Green'ius Award if they attend all meetings.

Please RSVP for the events at the end of this page or on the individual event pages.

How to help Children love Gardening?

It seems to us that all the children that pass through the greenhouse love the flowers - and when we have workshops that involve planting, they really take to it. So we would love to support them in this, knowing well that we cannot beat what they learn at home.

This Summer's Program

We have put together a program of five workshops this year - all in connection with other activities and all on weekends. We hope you will give us feedback as we go!

Pizza planter
For a pizza planter/garden

Pizza Garden or Planter

Saturday & Sunday, May 13th & 14th - 10 a.m. both days.

Plant a PIZZA PLANTER - or plan it, if you want to make it at home. Please bring a round container, big enough for several plants (or buy one here). We will divide it into slices and provide small plants of tomatoes and herbs (but not garlic) that fit on a pizza.

Insect Safari

Bugs and Bennies

Saturday, May 20th - 10 a.m.

Join us on an INSECT SAFARI. We will provide magnifying lenses (but you are welcome to bring your own) and take you on a tour through the greenhouse and look for bugs - and for Bennies, which is our pet name for the beneficial insects we release to control the bugs.

Fuchsia fairies
Fairy Fun

Fairy Fun

Saturday & Sunday, June 10th & 11th - 10 a.m. both days

In connection with the miniature garden workshop, we will help make something for the minigarden: a fuchsia fairy, a stone troll, a twig chair or anything else that is fun and possible. If there is anything you want to use, a fine stone or a fun twig, bring it along!

Gift Shop Filled to the Brim
Harvest time

Harvest Time

Saturday & Sunday, July 29th & 30th - 9.30 - 10.30 a.m. both days

We will make a show-and-tell-tour of our own veggie-garden. It is maybe a little early to harvest, but there are a lot of healthy veggie plants, and there will be some ripe tomatoes and edible flowers to sample.

Cheramic succulents
All about Bulbs

All about Bulbs

Saturday & Sunday, September 2nd & 3rd - 11 a.m. both days

At the last event, we will be talking about bulbs and everyone will plant a bulb in a forcing jar. It will be a nice thing to carry home and watch grow as the gardens wind down.
