Gnomes Living in the Fairy Garden

A common misconception about gnomes is that they are grumpy, stubborn, and challenging to live with. Every now and then, I will be planning my next miniature garden and I will fall in love with the idea of adding a gnome visitor as part of my fairy garden. These unexpected friendships are a fun addition, especially when you are a new, miniature, fairy gardener. It is a wonderful way to start your miniature gardening hobby by combining fairies and gnomes together, while bonding this unique kind of friendship. It is an unexpected touch to include amusing characters to your home, by adding gnomes, fairies, fairy homes, miniature plants, and some additional miniature accessories to enhance the themes of your garden.

I prefer to move toward new ideas and new fairy gardens to decorate my yard and home. I am excited this year to add more gnomes throughout the gardens I create and more gnome doors throughout my large yard, which is full of oversized trees that have clearly been around longer than my house. I usually devote a small grove of trees specifically to my miniature garden obsession. However, this year I am planning a miniature garden near a larger section of trees in my yard, because I want to dedicate a portion to my love of the friendship between gnomes and fairies and plant a woodsy area for them to live.

A great way of simulating the look of a real life forest, within your fairy garden, is to add some miniature shade plants that look like trees. My favorite would have to be ‘Cupressus macrocarpa’ also known as Lemon Cypress Cone, an evergreen, bushy plant that can be shaped and sculpted into different designs. However, in its natural state, it looks like an evergreen fir tree.

Back to thinking about the unlikely buddies who enjoy nature, outdoor parties, and family time together. A good representation of fairies and gnomes, would be “Fairy Ellie and Gnome Digby,” a fairy catching a ride on the shoulders of their strong gnome friend. Ellie is holding a sign that is announcing their friendship to the world, stating “Friends 4 Ever.” As you create a miniature garden with a fairy house, miniature plants, miniature accessories, and fairies, remember to add a gnome friend, like Ellie and Digby, to show this unique and beautiful friendship.

You want to make sure when you add in your gnome friends that you do not just plop them in the middle of a scene. Have them share a beverage with their friend on a hot summer's day, or have them assist a friend with a challenging project where a gnome's strength will come in handy. When I imagine a garden picnic party, I imagine a large outdoor bistro table, many chairs, a bonfire pit, a BBQ grill, and tray of a cold beverage with cups to share amongst friends. I would say the bucket of ice with pop bottles within it would be considered a fun way to add those cool drinks to your garden. The ideas will come easily when you put your mind to it and start creating your spring/summer miniature gardens. It really is exciting to start anticipating the seasons warming up and all the possibilities for what we can do with our gardens!
