Plant in a shady location and keep consistently moist, watering into the soil rather than into the foliage. Mulch around the base of the mound. Ensure that the plant's crown stays safe from foot traffic and small shovels. (The crown will be hard to see when the plant is cut back, but it must be protected.) Cut back foliage in late autumn, and cover with mulch in winter.
