This is a very easy-care vine, as long as you remember when and how to shear it. Shear it down to about 12" from the ground in late winter or early spring. New growth is quick, with the vine adding length in no time. This drastic cut-back ensures that the plant's stems will not turn woody. This is a self-sower, with filaments and seeds covering the vines once bloom time has passed. These give the vine a puffy-cloud look in late fall, winter, and early spring. Consider leaving the seedpods on the plant, or trim them quickly to keep the vine in check. Then give it a drastic cut-back later on. Doing best in moist but well-draining soils, it can be fertilized from time to time before summer bloom.
