This plant prefers well-drained soil. Soil is well-drained when it allows water to drain through it at a moderate rate, without pooling. Allow the soil to become visibly dry before watering.

This plant does best in bright indirect light and comfortable indoor temperatures, including humidity. With monthly fertilizing, it should do very well.

Red Stemmed Pilea has very small steel-blue foliage which contrasts sharply with its mahogany red stems. It forms an excellent creeping mat. This plant is a very low-growing spreader. Red Stemmed Pilea also sporadically blooms with small pale pink flower clusters.
