The Hibiscus blooms on new wood. It likes a well-draining soil, and it does like to be kept hydrated and fed. For fertilizer, Proven Winners® recommends avoiding the so-called "bloom boosters" and opting instead for a low-phosphorous fertilizer. But do feed, feed, feed to increase flower production. The flowers are so large that, after they fall from the stems as spent blooms, they sometimes stick on the foliage and require just a bit of tidying up. However, this work is minimal.
