This plant prefers well-drained soil. Soil is well-drained when it allows water to drain through it at a moderate rate, without pooling. Allow the soil to become visibly dry before watering.

This attractive plant does best when placed in typical soil, neither too rich nor too spare. Divide your mound if it begins to split. This plant is attractive to gardeners and butterflies but not to deer or rabbits. It is even drought resistant. Silver Mound loves the sun and thrives in hot, dry sites.

With featherlike, soft foliage, Artemisia schmidtiana, Silver Mound is a dream perennial for any garden. “Silver Mound” is an apt name, as this plant grows in a cushy, rounded, mound-like shape. With this plant, you can create a border that is both distinct and delicate, while still filling up all the space you need to cover. The silver color contrasts well with bright flowers, green plants, and other landscaping materials. You might consider it for a rock garden. Blossoms on this plant are inconspicuous, so those visiting the garden can simply enjoy the impressive silvery foliage. It grows quickly, so it is excellent as a filler plant, though it can also be kept in pots.
