A true fig, a relative of the edible fig, this plant will climb objects 20' or more by aerial rootlets. Without something to climb, it will spread indefinitely into a short, dense trailing ground cover. Mature leaves are 2"-4" long. Due to its fine foliage, shade tolerance, and fast growth rate (once established), Ficus pumila is one of the best vines for creating dense green coverings that cascade over walls and drape from elevated planters. It will form a horizontal carpet when there is nothing to climb. It goes particularly well under palms and clump-forming tropicals.
