Best known for its grass-like, narrow leaves, Black Mondo Grass is a perennial which is native to Japan. It is actually a member of the Lily family. Its leaves, clumped together in the middle and arching outward, can rise to almost a foot high. This plant is at its best when used in bunches as edging along a garden, sidewalk, stream, rock garden, fairy garden, or entryway. In the summertime, it produces pale pink flowers, and autumn brings inedible berries.
