This plant prefers well-drained soil. Soil is well-drained when it allows water to drain through it at a moderate rate, without pooling. Allow the soil to become visibly dry before watering.

This easy-to-grow plant likes neutral to slightly alkaline soil. It loves soaking up the sun and can tolerate brief periods of drought. This forgiving ground cover can even tolerate salt to some extent. Gardeners can prune this low-growing plant to maintain its shape and prompt new growth. Keep in mind that its small stems may get a bit woody as they mature.

In partial shade, Elfin Thyme grows into small hummocks. Depending on where the thyme is growing, this hilly effect can look good. However, some gardeners prefer this small herb to grow flat. To achieve a horizontal appearance, plant it where it receives five hours of sun a day or more. This creeping thyme is extremely compact and very good as lawn look-a-like in the miniature garden.

Elfin Thyme will be available again when the temperatures are moderate. It suffers too much from the heat during transit.
