This compact shrub likes well draining soil and moderate watering. On occasion, it can tolerate brief periods of drought, once it is established. Be sure your Barberry gets 4-6 hours of bright sunlight each day. Pruning in early spring once buds appear and before leaves develop is fine for a substantial size reduction. Lighter pruning beyond that, all summer, is also fine.
