Albuca ‘Frizzle Sizzle’ grows from an underground bulb and is a member of the Hyacinth family. Vanilla-scented yellow flowers appear in spring on flower spikes. But allowing the plant to flower may sacrifice the good look of the foliage as the plant puts its efforts into flowering. The leaves of this bulb-based plant curl into little coils of green foliage. It grows well on a sunny windowsill, miniature or fairy garden, as part of a mixed succulent container, and even in the ground in regions where it is hardy.
Note to growers: Albuca ‘Frizzle Sizzle’ is a spring bloomer. When it sends up a flower stalk, it causes the tips of the leaves to brown. This is natural. If you don’t want this to happen, remove the flower stalks as soon as they start to grow to prevent leaf tip browning. During the summer, the plant goes into dormancy; it loses all its leaves and stays dormant until the winter. The leaves then grow back from the bulb in winter.
