If you aim to keep the Red Tassel Flower as a bonsai or shrubby houseplant, ensure good warmth and high humidity. In its native environment (desert regions), it grows in gravel soil that drains well. As an indoor houseplant, you will want to use a richer soil but maintain the good drainage. There is no need for regular fertilizing. Trimming it is not only fine but advisable, and this will keep its height and spread in check.

Talk about unusual! The Red Tassel Flower is a hard-to-find shrub/tree with scarlet red puffs that are similar to the flowers of the Sensitive Plant, but bigger and very bright red. These 3" blooms (reaching this size once the shrub has had some growing time) are exotic, visible, and even fragrant. Its leaves are similar to the leaves of the Sensitive Plant, as well... compound, folding, intriguing. These feathery leaves allow the shrub's woody stems to show through, thus making it a nice candidate for turning into a stunning bonsai. 'Red Powder Puff' can be grown outdoors and pulled in, provided it is planted in a large container.
