Care:

Succulents, known for their moisture-storing capacity, have evolved to survive hot environments. In general, the surrounding temperature should fall somewhere between 40 and 95 degrees F. They should be watered every 2 – 3 weeks. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings. In the wintertime, you will need to water them less often. Overwatering can lead to leaf loss, misshapen leaves, root rot, and yellow leaves.

Most thrive with about 3 to 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. Occasionally, too much sunlight can cause scorch marks and brown spots. With too little light, the plant may stretch its leaves outward.

These drought-resistant desert-dwellers are versatile and come in a variety of sizes, colors, and shapes. Be sure to research your specific succulent variety to provide the care it needs.

There is no need for trimming the strings of this plant, unless you want to propagate it by way of a cutting.

Description:

String of Pearls is an ornamental succulent that can be used in hanging baskets, planted in miniature or fairy gardens, or planted as part of succulent arrangements. We often use small pieces as rows of "onions" in fairy veggie gardens. Its flowers are not very attractive and are followed by seed that pops open like a dandelion to be spread by the wind. These can be cut off to avoid this somewhat weedy look. Despite its delicate appearance, this unusual succulent houseplant is a vigorous grower, quickly creeping across the surface of a pot and then cascading down the side. Senecio rowleyanus is native to South Africa. It grows long, trailing stems with its signature round "leaves". The stems of String of Pearls trail on the ground, rooting where they touch and forming dense mats.

This plant features in Leslie Halleck's video Tiny Plants: Miniature Gardening Unboxing.
