You might think you are looking at a cactus when you see this plant's columns of greenery, ribbed and jagged-edged. But this is a succulent that will make you do a double-take when you see one of its giant (really giant, 12-16" across) blooms. Blooms look like starfish and show nicely in a pale and creamy yellow with fine brownish red lines to accentuate them. The hairy ballooned flowers are a sight to see as they cover a good deal of the plant's greenery. Some call this plant the Carrion Flower, and if you know the term "carrion", you'll know to keep a little distance from its... not the sweetest blooms in the bunch. But you'll definitely want to see these giant blooms, so unusual on a relatively easy-care succulent.
